Before you start

  • ·Made for tying terminal tackle to braided lines, which are slicker than mono. It is tied with doubled line through the eye.
  • ·Check the eye takes doubled braid. If it will not, use a knot tied with a single strand.
  • ·Leave a long loop. It has to make all 8 wraps and still reach back through the opening at the eye.
  • ·Wet the braid before the final pull, and pull the standing line with steady pressure rather than a jerk.

If it goes wrong

Forcing doubled braid through an eye too small for it. The braid frays on the edge of the eye, or the strands cross inside it.

Fix: Pull the loop back out and feed it again with the strands flat. If the eye will not take doubled braid, use a knot tied with a single strand.

Why: The loop end is the working end for the rest of the knot, and it has to be long enough to make all the wraps and still pass back through at the eye.

Seating sequence — where failures are born

The step list compresses the finish. Run these phases in order, one at a time.

  1. 01 Moisten

    Wet the structure before any load reaches it.

    Zero. Nothing tightens yet.

  2. 02 Load

    Take up slack slowly until the wraps begin to gather.

    Light and even — both ends moving together.

  3. 03 Dress

    Watch the wraps stack in order; stop and back off if any cross.

    Hold, do not pull. Correction happens here or not at all.

  4. 04 Set

    One continuous pull to full seat — no sawing, no jerks.

    Firm, single direction, standing line against the terminal end.

  5. 05 Trim

    Cut the tag square, leaving a short stub proud of the knot.

  • ·Retie by feel first, light second — the seat is a tactile event, not a visual one.
  • ·Gloves off for the dress phase. Fabric hides a crossing wrap.
  • ·Wrong twice in a row means the material or the hardware is fighting you. Change one, not your technique.

Not established

Its only published figures come from Berkley's own test machine via the Knot Wars series, where it tops the table at 124–132% of rated strength — a number that cannot be a retention percentage, and the maker publishes no efficiency figure against an unknotted control.

Percentages come from published tests on their own line, their own knot-tyer and their own pull rate. Yours is a different system. Treat a figure as a reason to test, not as a result you already have.
